Draft letter to mp:
8th February
Dear Sir
I am writing to you in hope you can assist me. I
will not present you with lots of details at the
moment, but if you feel you can help me with my
request we can discuss in more details at a later
date.
I and many other couples throughout the Uk fee
there is a need for IVF treatment to be included
in employment law, at present there is no
guidelines or regulations in place.
The reason we feel that legislation should be in
place is that during treatment many couples are
faced with problems with there employers trying to
justify absence from work to attend appointments,
with IVF being a personal sensitive matter it can
be frustrating when you are placed in a situation
where your disciplined for absences beyond your
control.
The reason I feel so strongly about this is my
husband had to resign last year from his job as
his employer refused him time off to go to our
appointment.
I feel the employment law caters for all other
aspects of family i.e. Maternity which includes
time off for anti – natal appointments, paternity
leave and the right to take time off for
dependants etc but none that could be used for
hospital treatment for IVF.
I know there is a lot of debate over IVF but it is
a medical treatment for a medically diagnosed
problem.
I and many others throughout the Uk would like to
see an employment law introduced to protect us
from disciplinary or dismissal at work while we
are going through an incredible stressful and very
expensive process.
I hope you can assist in making this proposal
reality.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any
questions.
Look forward to your response
Yours Faithfully
